- Comments: "Extremely late and per eBird, the only records after October
for the state! First seen from a distance over Sellwood Park, and my
immediate thought was that the birds were VASW's. However, knowing how rare
that species would be this late, I ran to get a closer look. Once I got
nearer, the ID was unmistakable--the birds had quick, fluttery wingbeats
with very thin wings and an all black, "cigar shaped" body. Also, much
smaller than the very outside possibility of Common Swift owing to the
winds from the Gulf of Alaska recently. No definitive ruling out of Chimney
Swift because the birds did not vocalize. However, the sifts appeared like
perfectly normal VASW´s. Five is the closest I could gewt to an accurate
count while staying conservative and there were very probably more as it
was hard to count and they were spread out over the park. A huge surprise
at this time of year, and especially multiples."

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S76303695
- Comments: "Initially spotted flying low over fields east of the road.
Large, pale brown owl with short cylindrical body and very long wings. Body
shape along with floppy flight eliminates Great Horned and Barn Owls. Was
being chased by 2 AMCR and this number steadily grew to about 8. Crows were
really hammering the owl which was forced to take more drastic evasive
moves. Underwings when banking showed prominent dark wingtips (solid not
barred) and carpal "comma" eliminating Long-eared Owl which would have less
bold markings. The owl climbed quite high thanks to the persistent AMCR
harrassment and flew off to the southeast"

Dusky Flycatcher (Empidonax oberholseri) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Nov 10, 2020 11:45 by Bill Shelmerdine
- Hatfield Lake, Deschutes, Oregon
- Map:
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-121.198554&<ll...>,-121.198554
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S76175560
- Media: 8 Photos
- Comments: "Initially associated with a couple of Dark-eyed Juncos and
Yellow-rumped Warblers foraging at the base of the rock dike along the
lakeshore at the north end of the first lake. A very cold looking
individual feeding low, often on the ground and under sagebrush, then would
sit on rocks at base of the dike. Rarely flew up to the lower branches of
Junipers before returning to the ground and low bushes (sage, etc.). Most
or all passerines looked to be trying to stay low and out of the wind.
Obtained several digi-scoped photos, I.D. resolved now that I have
returned home and have reference, and have solicited others comments and
feedback.

The bird presented as olive drab uppers that seemed like they were washed
with brownish tones, and showing a distinctly gray face, side, and
hind-neck that contrasted distinctly with the olive crown and mid-back.
Bold whitish wing-bars with worn looking edges; mostly appeared to have a
short primary projection, though some photos look somewhat intermediate in
this regard. Distinct eye-ring widening behind eye. Bill shape was hard
to nail down in the field, but showed distinctly yellow/orange lower
mandible, black above; appeared somewhat longish and on the narrow side.

Underparts rather drab with whitish throat, lower belly, and undertail.
Breast grayish giving a vested look, pale through the center. Faint, but
distinct yellow wash in flanks and mid-breast only. Other than that
appearing rather drab throughout with no bright greenish tones above or
below. Photos show a rather plump looking individual fluffed up in the
cold, but bird when perched in low juniper branched appeared rather lean
and long-tailed. Flicked it's tail up slowly a few times during
observation, but never seen to flick it's wings.
Photos attached. I.D. comments were solicited and obtained."
