Subject: [MDBirding] Golden Eagles on the move-Baltimore Co.
With strong winds out of the WNW and a good mix of clouds in the sky
yesterday, the Cromwell Valley Park hawk-watch crew were hoping for a good
flight of migrating raptors.
We expected to see Redtails and Redshoulders in numbers, and perhaps a
Golden Eagle if we were lucky.
Patience and perseverance paid off after a somewhat slow start. Three
Golden Eagles were seen and a possible fourth. All 3 were juvenile birds,
2 of which flew SW along the BGE ridge line while the last bird flew
directly over the watch site allowing Mark Miller to get fairly good
photos. These birds were recorded at 11:20, 1:20 and 2:17 PM respectively.
Ninety three Redtails were counted along with 12 Redshoulders.
Other watch sites in the mid Atlantic area had good movements also, with
Waggoners Gap getting 25 Goldens. Go to hawk *count.org* for details.
A few of us be there again today to see what the winds bring us.
