Dark overall with some white patches on around head. I could not see the
wing patch, but the angle of the bill was straighter coming from the
crown than a Surf Scoter. Later it appeared in the NW corner of the middle
pond with its head tucked in most of the time."

- Comments: "I had excellent scope views of this juvenile Pacific Loon, and
it was especially nice to see it floating alongside a juvenile Common Loon,
because of the opportunity for comparison. The PALO was considerably
smaller than the COLO and had a much more upright posture. Its head was
sooty gray and rounded, giving it a hooded appearance. The side of its neck
had a sharp vertical border between the white foreneck and the dark gray
hindneck. It had a relatively small, pointed bill that was obviously
shorter than the Common's. The bird also had a thin, dark "chinstrap".

before I could snap a photo."

- Comments: "Brighter ruddy Fox Sparrow with reddish streaks of flanks
against very white sides. Very bright rusty Rufous rump including very
lower back and upper tail. Reddish area on lower portion of head. Upper
back a reddish gray. Bill appeared dark, but was digging/foraging in damp
soil, so not positive."
