- Comments: "More slender than Black-bellied Plover. Pale eye-brow stripe, crown dark, gold spots on back. Only 3 primaries visible past longest tertial, this is clear in photo. Mark Holmgren advised this ID vs American Golden Plover, based on several features-including relatively long slender legs and long bill, only 3 primary feathers extending past tertials ("short wing tips"), and the staggered spacing of the primary tips."

- Comments: "a little smaller than the Black-bellied Plovers, bit more slender. the color was much warmer with a yellow cast, the back was more prominently speckled than the Black-bellies with a few of the speckles actually gold."

- Comments: "Walked from Lot 6 down the entirety of the beach, moving towards Goleta Beach County Park. Got to the end, was about to give up, then turned around and the bird was right in front of me! Roughly the size of a Sanderling, with a noticeably long bill that droops at the end. White "eyebrow" and grey-brown coloration with a white belly and black legs."

- Comments: "Associating with Lincoln’s and White-crowned Sparrows along the weedy fence on the west side of the Santa Monica Creek channel north of El Carro Lane near (34.4077666, -119.5275157). Spizella size and shape (overall small, small beak, relatively long notched tail), brownish with an unmarked breast, pale between the eyes and beak, buffy eyebrow, clean gray nape, some white in the median crown stripe (?). Originally entered as Brewer's Sparrow based on what I thought was a relatively low-contrast face pattern, but after helpful input from a few experts I've changed the ID to Clay-colored. Thanks!"
