There are designs for winter roosting boxes and a link to one such:

The roost boxes have an internal perch for birds to use above the floor.

My bluebirds and chickadees roost some nights in the winter in the nest box they used in the breeding season nesting. I do not have a specfic box for winter roosting but if you get the nest box out before winter you will see birds inspecting it and they know where to come when needed.

I have seen these posts about winter nest areas. As for someone who is not crafty- is there a good examples of nesting boxes for winter?

Thanks,
