- Comments: "Two largeish sparrows showing white in outer tail flew out of
young (&lt; 3 ft high) Xmas trees on south side of road and flew to edge of
pasture on north side. One perched on top wire of pasture fence at distance
of ~20 m while the other one dropped down out of sight behind tall grass. I
was expecting Vesper Sparrows so surprised to see a bolder face pattern
with white supraloral and pronounced white crescent between eye and broad
brownish cheek patch, as characteristic for Lark Sparrow. Apparently a
hatch-year bird based on relatively dull brownish rather than rufous color
on face. Second bird assumed to be same species based on similar size and
impression in flight, and association."
