Subject: [LABIRD-L] Fall migration
|For anyone not on LOS facebook:
LOS Weekly Fall Migration Post for the First Week of August from John Dillon.
Blue-winged Teal - first slight uptick in nos.
Northern Bobwhite - should become silent by now and be much more difficult to find throughout the rest of the year.
Wild Turkey - become much less frequent but average count nos. begin to increase now through end of year.
Groove-billed Ani - a handful of records for 1st two weeks of August
Ruby-throated Hummingbird - nos. could triple between now and end of the month
Rufous Hummingbird - first few return this week; slight increases throughout month.
Upland Sandpiper - actually start with small nos. in July, but first noticeable nos. this week through most of Sept.
Bairdís Sandpiper - returns and migrates through early Oct.
Buff-breasted Sandpiper - returns and migrates through early Oct.
Wilsonís Phalarope - returns and migrates through Sept in much lower nos. than spring.
Swallow-tailed Kite - begin to leave and are gone by the end of the month.
Peregrine Falcon - the first few indvs return but noticeable nos not until Sept.
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher - now through mid-Oct.
Alder Flycatcher - now through Sept.
Least Flycatcher - nos. begin in late July but increase now and surge last week in Aug.
Purple Martin - most left in late July; only small numbers until gone.
Bank Swallow - small nos. but biggest surge in last week of Aug.
Marsh Wren - absolute lowest nos. all year throughout Aug.
House Finch - highest freq. of the year this week and next week
Bachmanís Sparrow - detections plummet until spring.
Eastern Meadlowlark - lowest nos. all year now through Sept.
Orchard Oriole - seen infrequently throughout Aug. but when seen, seen in highest numbers of the year.
Yellow Warbler - begins last week of July; peaks last week of Aug.
