Subject: [CT Birds] CACC
7/29 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center- 9:40am-11:10am, sunny,
85F, mid tide.
Greeted by the singing Song sparrow in the parking lot, again.
Many Purple Martins flying around , several in the trees and several not
fledged yet.
Our osprey female was on the nest with the 2 juveniles quite large and male
was on his perch. Two other ospreys flying in area. Two Mute swans on the
marsh with a snowy egret.
On the grounds- several mourning doves, Common Grackles, Robins, House
sparrows, and the Ruby throated hummingbird in the tree by the trumpet vine.
On the Long Island Sound side, 12 Piping Plover adults with 3 chicks seen,
Semipalmated Sandpipers everywhere (conservative estimate of 500), about 9
Semipalmated Plovers, 14 American Oystercatchers including 3 juveniles,
3 Great Egrets, 5 Snowy Egrets, 1 Red Knot, conservative estimate of 100
Least Terns with a couple of juveniles being fed fish, and conservative
estimate of 200 Common Terns, 11 Great black backed gulls, Herring and Ring
billed gulls,
1 Barn swallow, 1 Tree swallow, pair of Mute swans with gosling in marsh on
Long Island sound side.
