Spent some time at the old Sunflower site northeast of Phoenix this morning and the best bird was a good looking and fairly vocal INDIGO BUNTING. Always a nice surprise in Maricopa County in the summer. Was also serenaded by a pair of HY (Hatch Year), Common Black Hawks that did a lot of calling. Did not see the parents, but heard one higher up in the tree beyond the youngsters. Nice that this pair had a successful clutch this year.

The Bush Fire was pretty devastating in places. Lots of habitat and Saguaros were destroyed. Hopefully some god monsoon rains will regenerate some of the vegetation. The roads up to Mt Ord and Slate Creek Divide remain closed to the public.

Great birding to all,
