Least Flycatcher (Empidonax minimus) (1)
- Reported Jun 25, 2020 11:37 by Caleb Centanni

edge, Baker, Oregon

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S70816210
- Comments: "(Rare): “unreported”: made recording of weird calls, not
regular chbck calls, so prob this is a female? more a mix of call notes
with doubled “interaction calls”: we spent a lot of time listening and
making recording before seen: Courtney saw first to confirm LEFL, but felt
better about that ID when also Caleb “got a great view, best view I’ve ever
had of a LEFL” , — “also doing a short chip note like a warbler note,
intermixed with its other call.” — short pale bill, short wing, white
throat and overall rather white and also puffy cottonbally and cute face
and appearance. — “has very contrasting wing patterning” — in willow,
cottonwood, and Hawthorne trees —

Note: this would be a first confirmed LEFL for Baker co. on ebird , and
this is already our 3rd LEFL here this morning! and they are apparently
breeding here cool.

Note: no public access allowed here, but we got permission to bird count
here from a very nice man working the water routes here today. This area is
thick with mosquitos and stinging nettle, and high weeds and right here is
marshy, swampy water flooding grasses"

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S70816497
- Media: 1 Audio
- Comments: "(Rare): “unreported”: pair seen together, 1 singing, made
recording of singing. — THICK with mosquitos and stinging nettle here! omg,
so terrible. ; Note: this would be a first confirmed LEFL for Baker co. on
ebird ! and they are apparently breeding here cool. “Pretty frickin’ cool.
This is the only known breeding population in Oregon this year. Or will be
— no one knows about it yet.” — “Except poss the Indian Ford LEFL, there
are 2 there. A few people have reported 2, but no reports of them seen
together.”

Note: no public access allowed here, but we got permission to bird count
here from a very nice man working the water routes here today. This area is

American Pipit (Anthus rubescens) (4)
- Reported Jun 23, 2020 06:30 by Lou Fredd
- A 71st Tualatin, Washington, Oregon
- Map:
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=45.3734516,-122.7497198&ll=45.3734516,-122.7497198
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S70789310
- Comments: "Small flock headed north thru neighborhood. about mid-canopy
level mature trees. Bunched together
but flight disorganized. Good study of one paused on Doug fir bough 10-15
sec, 150-200ft. Complete sideview, eye level. Optimal light from behind
me falling on subject. 11-33X scope view.

SIZE/SHAPE: Small, about the same as House Finch. Body shape slender.
Plumage neatly arranged. BILL Robin-like. Dark, straight, slender,
pointed. HEAD: Ordinary rounded shape, distinctively marked. Cleanly
defined, bold pale eyebrow from supraloral to behind eye. Loral area
pale. Conspicuous pale eyering, complete. Eye patch dusky olive brown.
Prominent pale malar, cleanly defined from loral area and extending to
border ear patch from below. WINGS: Olive-brown, unpatterned except for
two prominent pale wing bars. BACK: Olive-brown. UNDERPARTS: Pale,
especially noticeable in flight. Breast lightly streaked. TAIL: Medium
length, held neatly bunched and slightly cocked upward.

T IMING: I checked eBird's AMPI records for northern Willamette Valley,
Jun-Aug, cumulative for the past ten years. Records Jun-Jul are few, well
scattered , most by qualified observers well known in this area. The
timing of this observation is not a biological issue. I assume this was a
perfectly good migratory flock, a little late in seasonal timing, that's
all.

BEHAVIOR: Normal. AMPI are occasionally observed perching above ground
level (See e.g. Cornell's All About Birds).

HABITAT: Ordinary 80's subdivision homes on 1/2 acres lots. Some
established Doug firs retained, otherwise mostly mature ornamentals
hodge-podge typical for the era e.g. large weeping Euro birches). Habitat
atypical but not an important consideration assuming migrating birds."
