Subject: [ia-bird] Neal Smith NWR
I've finally been able to go to Neal Smith NWR regularly in the last couple
of weeks, after basically missing spring. There have been some birds of
note recently. NORTHERN BOBWHITE have been heard and seen in widely spaced
parts of the refuge. Today one was heard from the visitor center parking
lot. A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT has been singing from near the parking lot of
the Savanna Trail. BELL'S VIREOS were also heard there this morning. Of
course, HENSLOW’S SPARROWS are singing everywhere in the prairie, which
went completely unburned this year. It was a beautiful day to be out and
the wildflowers are gorgeous right now.
