A friend in Canby sent me this shot of an individual juvenile House Finch frequenting her feeder. Tufting such as this shows up occasionally in HOFI and is probably a recessive trait in its tendency to linger. The tufts eventually fall out as more mature feathering takes over. Are there other such examples in other finches?
