(Rare): cont. great bird found by Frank and Kevin 2-days ago.
6 of us heard it sing (at 42.02440, -122.10017) ~ 9am till 9:08a after 2-hr
of searching,
(during which Frank ho s distant several times when we first arrived;
and 7:42a Caleb and Courtney and Frank prob heard one song),
and then it flew upslope and never seen or heard again all day long despite
others arriving to continue search, and despite C&C hanging hammock where
it had sung and quietly waiting hours for it to return: no.
“It was singing at the base of that ponderosa in the brush, and then it
blew up out of there and went (upslope) and sang once and we never
heard/saw it again.”
(Note: none of us today ever played any tapes for it.)

Made recording of singing. Singing at same spot where found 2-days ago,
Kevin built a rock cairn there.
— short liquid thrush song rising in pitch overall, and emphatic. — (C&C
note that the final trill is hard to hear actually, so the song seems
really short).

Life bird for Caleb and Courtney! Sad didn’t get to see gorgeous thrush ...
but delighted we got to hear it sing.
Apparently only ~ 4 prev Oregon records, all from the 1980’s except for Don
S’s 2012 Jefferson co. find, and this is first spring record? So, truly
fortunate to hear it sing!

Thank you so much Kevin, Frank, and Dave, we so enjoyed meeting you all
today, joining with and birding with you, so pleasant too our relaxed sit
at end on this beautiful day, and looking at Frank’s seacliffs of seabirds;
always fun to bird into Tim R. Botanist, all of us today rotating turns
geeking out w scientific names, (“Canus oldus”); and grateful to join your
birding companionship too bc otherwise we prob would have missed this bird.
Thank you for helping us get on it!
We look forward to more Klamath co. birding in future, and hopefully some
with you guys! chasing your great finds, and getting to explore wonderful
new birding sites like this one. (But not wonderful road! historical wagon
road down canyon is worst road we have ever seen for cars!)

Note: C&C stayed additional 11-6p after DFKT team left, and we were joined
by others incl Howard and Mary, Tim S, Zia, and then Don and Chuck arrived
as we walked up road, and none of us refound the WOTH. Disappointing for
many, and also everyone with good spirits about it. We all thought this
bird would be easier to see! On prev. days has been singing territorially,
and seen by many, and many got photos, gorgeous photos by Frank L, so wow,
unexpected to note: the bird has turned into a Skulker, and is very
difficult.

“I’m tired of chasing skulky brown passerines. I’m ready to chase a Wood
Stork. A Bar-tailed Godwit.”
— “Gosh. I like chats, but if they weren’t here, this would be a lot
easier.” — (chats and towhees doing thrushy tones).
— “These skulking birds, WOTH and OVEN, have so much space in there and no
reason to ever come out.”
— “After OVEN and WOTH, every chase is going to be easy. I enjoy a
challenge, but I also like birds that you might eventually get to see if
you try hard enough!”
— “Request to universe: next thrush chase, please in a place with no
singing chats!”
— “Well today we got a WOTH. We birded with 2 kind coastal Tims. We had
some Community. We laid in a hammock.”"
