- Comments: "(Rare): “unreported”: we found our own LEFL! yay! singing :
picked out and found simultaneously, hearing it, though Caleb was the quick
one to say aloud “Least Flycatcher!” First. Made recording of its song. —
Was a lifer for Caleb only 2-days ago, and better looks of this one here,
at this exact pin. — “I’ll take that as a friendly reminder that anything
can happen at any time!” — “also a sign that someone could be finding
something really good at Malheur right now ...” (so many good birders there
right now, anxiety here lest something great be found over there while we
are here and we can’t chase it! — trying to get over this FOMO anxiety ...
that it’s okay to miss birds! We can’t see them all!) — “Well that was
cool! It’s not a YTVI, but it’s still really cool.” — “Yes. And I’m really
happy that I could tell what it was, by song.”"

California Thrasher (Toxostoma redivivum) (1)

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S70086685
- Comments: "The bird was singing from a tree on the north side of the
road. This large bird was an unmistakable thrasher, with a long de-curved
bill, white chin, brownish overall except for a pale buffy belly. The
thrasher's song was similar to that of a mockingbird, but harsher in tone.
I have seen and heard California Thrasher for many years in California's
San Joaquin Valley, so I am very familiar with this species. Sage Thrasher
is ruled out because the bill of this California Thrasher is longer than
that species, and Sage Thrasher has stripes on the chest and belly. I also
ruled out Brown Thrasher because that species also has stripes on the
belly, more rufous tones than California Thrasher, and yellow eyes."

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S70102835
- Comments: "First-year male, found earlier this morning. When we arrived,
several birders were gathered on the central lawn, looking at the
cottonwood where the HOWA had last been spotted. We approached and stood at
a respectful distance from other people, searching for the bird. I refound
it high in the cottonwood and got distant but diagnostic looks. Alas, as
soon as I tried to describe the bird's location, several birders began
crowding us very closely, entirely disregarding any social distancing
etiquette. This caused us to back up and lose the bird, which soon dropped
out of sight, so only I got to see it well enough to count. - A very
disappointing experience!

Overall olive-green and yellow warbler, slightly larger than nearby Yellow
Warbler. Back olive green, underside yellow; yellow face framed by an
incomplete dark blackish-gray hood, not a solid black throat patch as in
adult male. Too brief and distant for photos, but I believe others were
able to document it. Didn't see tail pattern and heard no vocalizations."
