John Eade is a professor at UC Davis doing extensive detailed study of Wood Duck nesting. According to him there are 245 species of waterfowl on Earth and nearly ever species has been documented to lay eggs in another bird's nest. 30% of the Wood Ducks he studies in central California incubate NONE of the eggs they lay. The case of Wood Ducks may be anthropogenic: Ridiculous concentrations of nest boxes are often installed in breeding habitat, attracting unnatural numbers of ducks .Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone
