Subject: [MASSBIRD] chipping sparrow at the welcome mat
Here's a first for me -- I 've seen birds gather all kinds of nesting
material over the years, including colored fish-line, bits of Mylar
balloons, horsehair, etc. A chipping sparrow this morning was on the door
mat outside my front door, eagerly gathering fibers from the natural sisal
mat, as much as he/she could hold in one beakful. It spent 2-3 minutes
cramming, then flew off with fibers sticking out every which way.

I'm glad to oblige, it was a very old mat anyway - I hope it's comfortable.
