Julie and I drove to Buck Creek State Park to look for the Red-throated Loon
that Dan Kempf found yesterday. We parked at the lot north of the beach and
looked over the lake. We found the bird while looking from near the boat
ramp. It was with a flock of Red-breasted Mergansers. Julie spotted it while
scanning with the scope. We watched it a couple minutes. Then it dove and we
didn't find it again. We also saw lots of Horned Grebes and several Common
Loons. All of the Common Loons we saw were in good breeding plumage which is
much different than the Red-throated Loon plumage.
