Up date on this post.

Several people looked for these birds this afternoon without luck.
Apparently (and according to information extracted from the jpg file) the
birds were seen this morning (1/9) at 0930. They were on the beach at the
north end of the unpaved parking lot for the Point Piedras Blancas Elephant
Seal rookery. This was just after this morning's 6.3 high tide. We were
there in the afternoon before and during the -1.1 tide at 1535 when there
was endless exposed rocky shoreline for the birds to get lost in.

Tomorrow the high is 6.5 at 0847. That would be a good time to search for
the birds. Hopefully they are still in that area.

Emperor Geese also like to forage in short grassland habitat. Most of the
coastal area around Point Piedras Blancas is grassland, though the shorter
grasses are primarily near the creek mouths and there is a lot of it in the
restoration areas for the Hwy 1 realignment.

The last county record for this species is from Morro Bay over the winter of
1966-67. If gone from the North Coast that would be another location to

Just received this photo of two Emperor Geese taken by a docent at "Elephant
Seals". I am assuming the photo was taken today at the Piedras Blancas
rookery, but as of yet have been unable to get more information.
