What can be better on a mid-January day than listening to 15 golden Eastern Meadowlarks giving a pre-season recital of that old favorite “spring of the year?” Beautiful, and so brilliantly gold!
It’s hard to top, but certainly a Common Goldeneye comes close!
Not to mention Goldfinches rolling overhead.
All seen on this beautiful mid winter day at Robert Byrd Locks and Dam, plus adjacent fish hatchery.
Additional highlights of a Route 2 birding loop - Bald Eagles, Red tail and Red Shouldered Hawks, Cooper’s Hawk, Kestrel, Buffleheads, Canvasbacks, and several Swamp Sparrows.
Laura Ceperley with Christy Carr in Cabell and Mason Counties.
