Subject: bathing eagles & other raptors
We had a pretty good raptor day today as we were taking care of
errands/chores.
The topper was six bald eagles in the Hinton area, Summers County. We had 2
adults below Bluestone Dam but the entertainment came from 3 of 4 immatures
bathing in Bluestone Lake. They looked like robins in a bird bath or
starlings in a puddle!
Also, had 5 redtails, 2 red-shouldered hawks and 2 kestrels. The surprise
was a sharp-shinned hawk in the mall parking lot.
We will be doing our 15th winter eagle survey in southern WV on Saturday,
January 11 from 10am-2pm.
