Subject: [MDBirding] Southern MD Common Mergansers
Common Merganser is uncommon at best in Calvert and St. Mary's with the exception of a sliver of the northern Patuxent up near Jug Bay before it hits the Anne Arundel County line. There have been two reports over the weekend, though, that might be of interest. The first, in St. Mary's, is 3 females at the Harry Lundberg school of seamanship in Piney Point. Sadly, the pond where the birds are being seen is not accessible to the general public.
The second report, from Calvert in the Chesapeake Ranch Estates in Lusby, isn't specific but they've been found at Lake Lariat on previous Patuxent CBCs so I'm assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that's where this bird was found.
