Date: 11/20/19 12:33 pm From: Richard Bansberg <rbansberg...> Subject: [AZNMbirds] San Pedro House Bird Walk
The 7 participants on todays bird walk at the San Pedro House recorded 48 species. The overcast skies and windy conditions appeared to keep sparrows down; only a few species were seen in the grasslands. Northern Shovelers, Gadwalls and American Wigeons (about 30) were present on Kingfisher Pond and a Virginia Rail was heard calling from the reeds. A Hammond’s Flycatcher and a Gray Flycatcher were seen along the river. The bird of the day was a female Ruddy Ground Dove; a pair have been seen in the area to the west of the San Pedro House the last couple of days.
The next bird walk will be this Saturday (11/23).
Bird walks at the San Pedro House take place every Wednesday of the month and every 4th Saturday of the month through the end of May. During November and December the walks start promptly at 8:00a. The walks last approximately 3 hours. The San Pedro House is located on the south side of State Route 90 immediately west of the San Pedro River (about 6 miles east of Sierra Vista).
