The Buffalo Bird Report is a service provided
by your Buffalo Museum of Science and the
Buffalo Ornithological Society. To contact the
Science Museum, call 896-5200. Press the pound
key to report sightings before the end of this
report.

Highlights of reports received October 24
through October 31 from the Niagara Frontier
Region.

Extremely rare, challenging to identify, and
elusive, a juvenile ARCTIC TERN was discovered
on the Niagara River. October 27, the tern was
found the west branch of the upper Niagara River,
at the Niagara Parks Marina at Millers Creek in
Ontario. This location is opposite the Beaver
Island State Park Marina on Grand Island. Numbers
of COMMON TERNS and one or more FORSTER'S TERNS
have been reported in the same area. ARCTIC TERN
has not been recorded in the BOS region since 1990.

Other Niagara River highlights this week - a
juvenile SABINE'S GULL at the International
Railroad Bridge. Adult LITTLE GULL on the west
branch, first winter LITTLE GULL below Niagara
Falls, and HARLEQUIN DUCK above the falls, off
the Three Sisters Islands.

At the Lake Erie source of the Niagara, two
JAEGERS and a PHALAROPE, plus a SPOTTED
SANDPIPER on the Bird Island Pier.

You may report sightings after the tone. Thank
you for calling and reporting.
