Things here (SE Northampton County, 2 miles west of Delaware River) are as expected for late October except that bird activity remains low with the warm weather. Species seen recently, though, are the normal winter arrivals. Juncos have been around for several days, and there are 8 sparrow species in the fields -- song, swamp, Savannah, white-throated, white- crowned, field, chipping, and Lincoln's. Ruby-crowned kinglets are easily found, as are a few sapsuckers, lots of yellow-rumped warblers, and small groups of palm warblers. An eastern phoebe was in the fencerow this morning and yesterday a blue-headed vireo was also there. I'm beginning to see chickadees (sp,), titmice, and white-breasted nuthatches visit feeders, and goldfinches are always around. This morning there was a decent robin putdown.
