Subject: Probable Kirtland's Warbler, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher - Fants Grove WMA (Anderson Co., SC)
Greetings, Birders. A relatively uneventful morning in Fants Grove WMA in northern Anderson Co. (SC) quickly transformed when I ran into a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher and, just minutes later, what matched a Kirtland's Warbler in every regard. Both birds were seen in the vicinity of a pokeberry/briar thicket about 0.6 miles southeast of the Big Oaks parking area.

Details can be found in my eBird checklist: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__ebird.org_view_checklist_S60421112&d=DwIFAg&c=imBPVzF25OnBgGmVOlcsiEgHoG1i6YHLR0Sj_gZ4adc&r=ymRCw6Q-sBitug_rdeO1Tokz-I_SX2LQN2_Ocvlal9U&m=_SnHT0UqIEezf6ibAR-kdxJ-AjKdg6ofn2iVi1n3gFk&s=455VOyxMmW7UQYgTLmwkp2IqaVaoUa_V_hGfLOK3-2U&e= . All of my observations for the warbler match the info I've found on Kirtland's in reputable sources, but I welcome any feedback on my notes. I do not have a birding camera and neither the flycatcher nor the warbler cooperated for my iPhone-through-bino photo attempts.

If anyone is interested in looking for the bird(s), from Big Oaks parking (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__goo.gl_maps_gAy1qXhyvLSckg5RA&d=DwIFAg&c=imBPVzF25OnBgGmVOlcsiEgHoG1i6YHLR0Sj_gZ4adc&r=ymRCw6Q-sBitug_rdeO1Tokz-I_SX2LQN2_Ocvlal9U&m=_SnHT0UqIEezf6ibAR-kdxJ-AjKdg6ofn2iVi1n3gFk&s=_jgnse90XV9SRYSdgKM_LAKmyiu8zPCIwDeXfDrjOp4&e= ), go across the street to the southeast and walk the gated dirt road southeast, staying to the right at all possible forks in the road. The road eventually winds through a scrubby, cut-over area with dense thickets and young pines; the birds were in a thicket alongside the road on the southeastern end of the scrubby openings, across from a small, semi-circular mowed clearing (just before the road starts downhill into a more mature forest).

Deer archery season starts on Oct. 15 and various other small game hunters may also be using this great tract of land on certain days, so please refer to the SC Regulations for more info: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.eregulations.com_southcarolina_huntingandfishing_general-2Drules-2Dregulations_&d=DwIFAg&c=imBPVzF25OnBgGmVOlcsiEgHoG1i6YHLR0Sj_gZ4adc&r=ymRCw6Q-sBitug_rdeO1Tokz-I_SX2LQN2_Ocvlal9U&m=_SnHT0UqIEezf6ibAR-kdxJ-AjKdg6ofn2iVi1n3gFk&s=YPQ5x7URbiqD7HxHq2BvXOkoFNWvyhL1Va14xgydn8s&e= .
