- Comments: "Apparently first found and photographed yesterday evening by
Greg Baker. Relocated this afternoon and identified as an American Golden
Plover by Aaron Beerman.

There are several subtle ID’s that lead one away from a Black-bellied
Plover and Pacific Golden-Plover. Starting with the strongest feature, the
primary projection, which seems long enough to only fit an AMGP. Three
primary feathers can be seen extending past the tail, with the top of the
fourth resting just short of the tip of the tail. Furthermore, the relative
size of the tertials to the primaries/tail seems to match the
illustrations of AMGP in the 2nd edition of Sibley quite nicely. The bill
is too small/narrow to belong to a Black-bellied Plover. The overall
coloration is grayish, with a few golden specks on the mantle, but the
dorsum is largely devoid of a yellowish/golden wash. The white supercilium
is pronounced. The cap doesn’t look especially dark on this individual to
my eyes, rather only slightly dark. The nape appears to be lacking spots.
Finally, the length of the tarsi does appear to be slightly shorter than
expected on a PAGP.

Aaron apparently heard the bird call, or got a recording of the call, and
it was a match with AMGP. Regardless, there are enough visual indicators
from the photos I’ve provided to arrive safely at an ID of American
Golden-Plover in my opinion."

- Comments: "see photo. First identified as GW x W hybrid. This bird was
suggested as a Icelandic by Matt Hunter. After looking at the photo I
concur. Early.
I recall that I thought it appeared smaller and more delicate than GW x W
but the bill seemed stout with some gonys angle (but it now seems ok for
ICGU). The gray in the head and pale mantle got me thinking, not a Western.
I think a GWxW hybrid would show more "smudgy" gray patterning in the head
this bird is just starting to show a more streaky pattern. Any comments /
review welcome."
