Northern Rough-winged Swallow (Stelgidopteryx serripennis) (1)
- Reported Oct 01, 2019 11:30 by Jay Withgott
- Fern Ridge WMA--Fisher Butte Unit north (dikes around Pelican Pond 6,
Osprey Pond 5, Redhead Pond 4, and west edge of Barn Pond 3), Lane, Oregon

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S60275876
- Comments: "Quite late for this species. Flew fairly low overhead,
unaccompanied by other swallows, and circled a few times, moving gradually
N to S. Was struck at first by the broad-looking wingbase, giving bird a
different shape than the Barn and Violet-green Swallows I'd been seeing.
This was why I got on it. Backlit much of the time, but could make out
solid brown color of back and upperwings at appropriate angles. Upper
breast was washed dilutely and evenly with pale brownish wash -- not a
distinct dark throat like a Cliff, not pure bright white like a Tree, and
not a band like a Bank. Size and shape were wrong for Bank as well. Rest
of underparts dull whitish."

Violet-green Swallow (Tachycineta thalassina) (8)
- Reported Oct 01, 2019 13:05 by Frank Hall

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S60274248
- Comments: "Counted; flying upstream at Topsy Crossing, all in in one
loose "flock", all 8 in view at same time within about 20/30m of each
other. Dark/greenish back, whitish/grayish posterior to eye, white chin,
breast, and ventral, short forked tail, diagnostic white patch anterior to
tail and behind back on sides of rump. Observed these birds in perfect
bright sunlight. The group made one loop back downstream (feeding?) and
then continued upstream at no more than 30-40m above the water surface.
Decidedly not Tree Swallows."
