Captain Ryan O'Rourke, of the Rivers of Steel Explorer boat, just sent me photos of about a dozen American Avocets that he said their boat had just passed across from the Western State Penitentiary at about 10:30 this morning. The birds were in deeper water and actually appear to be swimming, phalarope-style.
