Subject: American Avocets, Allegheny Co., Ohio River near Brunot Island
Captain Ryan O'Rourke, of the Rivers of Steel Explorer boat, just sent me
photos of about a dozen American Avocets that he said their boat had just
passed across from the Western State Penitentiary at about 10:30 this
morning. The birds were in deeper water and actually appear to be
swimming, phalarope-style.

unfailingly dropped whatever he was doing to help a young boy turn rough
drawings of his latest idea for a custom bird feeder or nest box into
well-fitting pieces that could be assembled into the real thing!
