godwit with prominent supercillium. Bathing head deep when I arrived
occasionally exposing white rump and black tail. Stretched wings exposing
black and white pattern. After leaving I heard some commotion and looked
back to see all the gulls and shorebirds in flight. A PEREGRINE was in hot
pursuit. It chased the godwit but the godwit had elevation and the Falcon
have up and flew with. The godwit was high and heating west with 6 BBPL
last I saw it. Great views of tail and wing pattern in flight. "

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S59932103
- Comments: "The bird was viewed through an 80 mm scope in good light. Size
and shape indicated that it was a godwit, but the bird did not have the
buffy tones and dark barring of a marbled godwit, which is the more
expected species. The bird had a slightly upturned bi-colored bill, dark
lores and a white supraloral. The mantle feathers were gray/brown with
gold-colored edging. Other visible wing feathers were a more even
gray/brown. Chest was a light warmish brown while the vent and undertail
coverts were whitish. Legs were dark. I did not see the bird in flight to
check the wing and tail pattern."

- Comments: "Appears to be first summer/winter Franklins. Very small in
comparison to nearby gulls, black/gray hood, white eye crescents
(googly-eyed), and dark narrow tail band at end of white fanned-out tail.

Dark upper wing with trailing white edge 1st winter points to Franklins or
Laughing, but the dark narrow tail band implicates Franklins."

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S59941001
- Comments: "Seen near the westernmost sandbar on Government Island. Not
associating with Gulls. They were quite far away, but appeared to be a few
first winter individuals, based on the upper wing pattern (darker grayish
primaries, secondaries and leading edge). Seen in flight a few times. From
what I could make out, each individual showed a fair amount of black on the
crown, especially on the rear of the crown, more so than I would expect a
Forster’s Tern to show this time of year (any age). Andy Frank had two COTE
at Broughton Beach this morning and I suspect at least two of the three I
observed are continuing individuals."

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S59931909
- Comments: "Seen flying from east about 2nd row of pilings. It was
obvious even with distant view that it was a small sterna tern, with more
erratic flight style than the gulls or Caspian Terns would have, with quick
and sharp turns. Once dove into the river to feed, but didn't appear to
catch anything. It made its way closer and I was able to see a
medium-sized thin dark bill, partial black cap, grayish-white back, and
thin dark wedge on primaries. It did not have the white flash on the
primaries that a Forster's Tern would have. Bill longer than I'd expect
for an Arctic Tern. After observing it for 20-30 seconds, I turned to get
my camera and then was not able to relocate it. Still not sure where it
went. Most likely it was hiding somewhere perched on the pilings, but I
did not see it there. I then biked on to Sea Scout Base and stopped there
again on my way back but did not see it again."
