Subject: [wisb] Black-bellied Whistling Duck - Dane Co
At around 9:30 it was on Indian Lake at the county park (Hwy 19).
It was with 2 mallards on west end when an adult Bald Eagle flew over
spooking the ducks.
The Whistling duck flew right overhead trailing 2 mallards. Neat to see it
fly.
I stuck around looking for warblers & kept scanning the lake but did not
see it return.
The small flock of mallards eventually did. Other birds there: Chestnut
sided Warbler, Black & White, Golden-winged, Common Yellowthroat,
Nashville, Ruby-Crown Kinglet, Ruby-throated Hummers, adult male and
females, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Belted Kingfisher, Catbird, Wood
Peewee, Willow Flycatcher (?), & Turkey Vulture. And Tom Wood got there as
I had to leave so he may have more to report. Thanks to Jim S. for finding
it! Year bird for me.
