Verona Public DockAllegheny County
I finally saw a kettle of migrating Common Nighthawks for the year. Thirty-six birds high over 9-mile Island on the Allegheny River at 7:26pm. I had just watched sixty Broad-winged Hawks kettle and stream from west to east over the river towards the mouth of Plum Creek area and probably up and over Verona and Oakmont. Six more nighthawks were seen as singles and a group of three by 7:49pm for a total of 42.
I arrived at the site a little late and wouldn't call today a long watch.
