Visitors: Nelson Klitzka who began the hawk count to start the day. Ed Wannamaker and Rick Gaeta who are long time, veteran volunteers, and Monica and Prem from Breingsville who added some very nice conversation during the afternoon doldrums on a hot and muggy August Sunday on 'the Knob.'
Weather: 100% cloud cover early, with a low temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit and a high temperature of 89 degrees Fahrenheit. Winds from the South, Southwest, ranging from 0 to 8 mph
Raptor Observations: It was a slow day due to the heat and the winds which ranged from 'still' to not so frequent bursts ranging from 1-8 mph. One osprey, a few immature very high and distant Broadwing hawks, a few redtail hawks but a very nice day nonetheless.
Non-raptor Observations: One Monarch butterfly, lots of lantern flies, one female Rufus hummingbird scene early in the day
Predictions: Sunshine and clouds mixed, with a low temperature of 69 degrees Fahrenheit and a high temperature of 92 degrees Fahrenheit. Winds Southwest at 5 to 10 mph. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible.
