- Comments: "Odd, non-breeding plumaged individual, with distinct
golden-yellow iris. Head shape kind of blocky with a steepish forecrown. I
suppose the head looked kind of peaked. I only saw the bird in one position
though. All black bill was longer than I’d expect for a BARO. Seems to be a
continuing, over summering individual. Have photos."

the length of the head, but not nearly as long as the long-billed Curlew.
Dark crown striping faintly visible. Approximately two-thirds the size of
nearby Mallards for comparison. Watched them foraging for several minutes
through a scope, from two different angles."

looking back at photos appears to be a juv, with pale edgings to mantle
feathers.

Dark back, mirrors in primaries. Heavier bull than BOGU. Beginnings of
thick eye arcs on a splotchy helmeted head. Foraging on lakebed with other
gulls."

Relatively pale gray cap and nape with grayer upper back. Very light gray
speckled chin throat breast belly undertail coverts. Elongated slightly
curved bill. Darker gray upperwing coverts with two faint white wing bars.
Darker secondaries and primaries. White wing patches visible as bird
preened. Elongated bill with slight downcurve. Pale eye. White wing patches
also visible. Direct but not strong flight between perches, no undulations.
Bird was observed on West side of trail for 15 minutes past the first bench
on the trail but before the trail forks into the woods. Photos.
