Bobolink (Dolichonyx oryzivorus) (17)

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S58432515
- Media: 1 Photo
- Comments: "We saw several Bobolinks perched on top of the grasses in two
fields adjacent to Puett Rd, one on the east side of the road approximately
5.5 miles from Beaver Creek Rd and the other on the west side at 5.75
miles. This is an undercount. It was difficult to estimate the number of
Bobolinks as they were constantly dropping into the grass, but we were able
to scan with the scope and count 12 to 17 birds out in the open at any one
time. Most had streaky backs with yellowish/buffy breasts, but about 10%
were males in breeding plumage with black and white backs and white/creamy
yellow on the back of the head. We didn't hear the famous bubbly song, but
their "tink" call was distinctive, quite a bit different than the sounds
made by other blackbirds in the area."
