Took a rather circuitous route home from my yearly June camp at Delintment Lake dropping down Silver Creek that had singing Lazuli Buntings and Yellow Warblers at every stop. Lake Abert was all the way up to its modern shoreline supporting thousands of American Avocets with dozens of Willets and Black-necked Stilts mixed in. Rafts of hundreds of Eared Grebes graced the open water. The Chewaucan was still cascading past dam dam at River's End Ranch. The lake was so full that it even supported white caps and was a uniform aquamarine all the way across. Chartreuse lichens lit up the soaring ramparts of Abert Rim above the lake so vast as to stir primordial Pleistocene memories.
