This morning's OBOL digest was an unsightly mess, with multiple copies of the daily eBird RBA list sprinkled through the digest. Perhaps it was necessary to go through this process in order to resolve the discussion. But I hope that things will now settle down to a situation where just one copy of the eRBA list shows up in the daily digest.
Ideally, this could be set up to post in the wee hours of the morning, just before the OBOL server sends out the digest. That way digest subscribers could look through all of the messages composed by humans, before having to wade through this machine-generated stack of names, links and repetitive ID justifications of continuing birds.
But no matter what time of day the eRBAs come out, it's easy to anticipate what could happen next: Someone will feel a need to comment on one of these eRBAs, and they'll do so by replying to the whole list of eRBAs. For digest subscribers, that means this whole mess will be copied again, smack-dab into the middle of the digest. Perhaps multiple times, if someone else replies to them.
So here's a suggestion to keep the digests readable, and reasonably compact:
If you want to comment on a particular eRBA, please compose a new message and copy the relevant details for that particular report into your message, rather than just hitting "reply-all" to the daily list of eRBAs.
