Subject: [sbcobirding] Kinevan Road this morning
Made a short trip to Kinevan this morning and walked the road from the upper bride to the lower bridge and back.  It was a riot of song.  More birds were heard than seen as usual, but I found it's a little easier to actually see the singers on the way back.  The angle and light are a little better for seeing in the trees.  Here are some of the highlights:
Woodpeckers:  Hairy, Nuttall's, FlickerFlycatchers:  Pacific-Slope (saw an adult feeding a young one), Ash-throated (gathering nest material), Olive-sided (silent in the top of a dead tree in the creek just below the upper bridge)Steller's Jay:  One heard and glimpsed high in the tall conifers at the top of the rise on the south side of the road at the upper bridgeThrushes:  Robins gathering food; Hermit Thrush singing in oak forest at mile marker 13Vireos:  Hutton's, Warbling (lots of these), Cassin's (heard 3 different ones singing, all fairly near the upper bridge)Warblers:  Lots of Yellow Warblers the entire length of the creek; also heard once a call that sure sounded like a Wilson'sCooper's Hawk:  Calling and flying across the rad at mile marker 12Wrens:  Canyon Wren calling form the north side of the creek; several House WrensFinches:  Both Purple and Lesser Goldfinches were heard.
Plus Juncos, Crows, Band-tailed Pigeon, Spotted Towhees  . . .
Mark, that map you shared showing the location of breeding sites along this road was most impressive!  Thanks for doing that.
