Subject: [MBBIRDS] College lake DEIR
Dear MBB,
Please read a recent update on responding to the College Lake DEIR.
College Lake is considered one of the most significant freshwater wetlands for birds in the Monterey Bay Region. The  water impoundment project at College Lake needs careful consideration, identification of habitat issues, clarity of management plans and resources prior to this project going forward.
Mudflats usually exposed in Spring have been known to feed  thousands of migrating and nesting birds would be underwater until Late Summer. Mitigation for alternative/replacement management lands for mudflat and feeding sites are vague in this DEIR.Attached is a letter outlining some of the areas of major concerns with links to the DEIR.
The first deadline has been extended to June 21.
Thank you for taking some time to consider responding to concerns about this critical habitat,
Lisa Sheridan-  Santa Cruz Bird Club
