Subject: [MDBirding] Better idea than Woodcock?
The attached shows a American stoneware crock to be featured in an
upcoming auction in Sparks, MD [https://www.crockerfarm.com/].

The Zipps are generally outstanding in their research of pcs, but have
slipped up a bit here as the bill is not nearly long enough for an Am.
Woodcock.

I thought it might be fun to get more likely IDs for the bird shown.
Obviously, the artist had a limited color palette and strayed from a
literal depiction of plumage ornamentation. Still he must have had a
specific bird in mind.

There is a definite shorebird shown on another crock...on the link
above follow the Website News:6/6/19 plus one additional link to pull
up the latest featured items.
