MN DNR is looking for volunteers to help monitor loons. The Minnesota
Loon Monitoring Program is a long-term project of the Nongame Wildlife
Program. Hundreds of volunteers collect information about common loon
numbers on more than 600 lakes. These lakes are found in Aitkin/Crow
Wing, Becker, Cook/Lake, Itasca, Kandiyohi and Otter Tail counties.

**NEW this year is an online sign-up system. There is an interactive map
that allows you to see what lakes need volunteers. Create an account, add
a lake you want to survey to your "cart" and check out (i.e., become a loon

Volunteers visit each lake one morning during a 10-day period in the
summer and count the number of adult and juvenile loons.
