I spent some time this morning birding the North and South Jetties and
walking Heceta Beach. Shorebirds were moving north in small groups at
Heceta Beach including Western & Least Sandpiper, Sanderling, Dunlin,
Black-bellied Plover, 9 Whimbrel, 2 RED KNOTS and 80 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE.
Five BONAPARTES GULLS were at the North Jetty mudflats and another 300 or so
were migrating north past the north jetty. At the South Jetty (road is now
open) 250 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE were on the water south of the jetty and at
least another 150 flew past. Black & RUDDY (1) Turnstones, Surfbirds and
one WANDERING TATTLER were on the rocks. Two MARBLED MURRLETS were in the
river near the mouth along with 3 Harlequin Ducks and a lingering Red-necked
Grebe.
