Subject: [CT Birds] Sapsucker Behavior
Re Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, can anyone explain some irrational behavior in my yard - while surrounded by trees old and young, this pair, an item, has spent 4 days now pecking two adjacent holes near the top of a (new-ish) telephone pole coated with a black stain?   Close cousins to Acorn Woodpeckers perhaps.  They have nested in these woods in the past (though not last year for the Atlas, of course).
