The final day of the season started out drizzly, with zero raptors seen in
the first three hours. A nice push of Broad-winged Hawks began just after 1
PM though, reaching a total of 53 for the day. A total of 61 raptors were
counted today, with one Osprey, five Sharp-shinned, one Red-tail, and one
Merlin making up the remainder.

The season finished with a total of 3,072 raptors, just the second time in
the history of this count to reach 3k! The final tally for Golden Eagles is
147, which places this season a bit below the long term average and just
behind last year's total of 150, this season now being the second-lowest
total on record.

The full season's raptor totals are below, and you can find the full
season's data for all species at Dunkadoo

.

Finally, I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made this count
possible! Thanks to the State College Bird Club and Shaver's Creek
Environmental Center for partnering to conduct this great long-term
research, to Jon Kauffman for organizing everything, to Nick Bolgiano for
an unbelievable amount of help out on the mountain, and thanks to everyone
who visited throughout the season. It was an incredible experience and a
great place to spend a couple months, and I hope to be back in central
Pennsylvania again soon!
