Subject: Spring Returns
On the way to the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge this morning, I
saw two male Common Mergansers on the Dry Fork between Harman and Dry Fork.
On Freeland Road, the Killdeer have returned to the horse pasture and
Eastern Meadowlarks to the field across from the refuge boardwalk. As I
walked the boardwalk, the Song Sparrows and Red-winged Blackbirds seemed to
be having a singing competition. The blackbirds were really displaying
their red and yellow epaulets. I think they were all happy with the warmer
weather. Herb Myers, Harman, Randolph County from Tucker County
