Subject: [AZNMbirds] SEAZ Northeast Tucson "Sleep in Special" TAS Field Trip (start time 2:30 p.m.)
Twenty-two enthusiastic well-rested birders explored northeast Tucson in search of gems.  Our best bird of the day was seen right in the parking lot, a roosting Common Poorwill above the Safeway store entrance!  Woodland Road did not disappoint with sightings of Lewis's Woodpecker, Arizona Woodpecker, Harris's Hawk, Cedar Waxwing, American Robin, Western Meadowlarks and Brown-headed Cowbird.  Tanque Verde Loop added more waxwings, Western Bluebird, and a Great Horned Owl.  Driving through the Lakes at Castlerock a Merlin greeted us, perched high in a Eucalyptus.  Other birds seen included Common Merganser, Mexican Duck, Loggerhead Shrike, Spotted Sandpiper, Northern Pintail, Vesper Sparrow, and Neotropic Cormorant.  A total of 60 species were seen/heard this afternoon.  Thanks so much to all participants for finding all these local gems.
