Date: 2/10/19 3:36 pm From: Thomas W. Reed <coturnicops...> Subject: [NJBIRDS] Gyrfalcon -- evening update
The Gyrfalcon continued on the north/west side of Nummy Island through the afternoon, primarily on the sand patch that is south (left) of the big dredge spoil mound. Around 4:15pm it returned to the same Osprey platform where it spent some time this morning (closer to the road & cedar grove/bridge). It eventually flew off shortly before 5:00pm and headed west across the marsh. There was some confusion as to whether the bird eventually ended up near the Wetlands Institute or continued west toward Cape May Court House, but either way, we're hopeful that it will again be in the area tomorrow.
Updates (+ or -) will be shared here tomorrow, and CMBO's Twitter account (@cmbobirds) will again broadcast reports as they come in. Some freezing rain/sleet is in the forecast for the overnight and Monday morning, so please take it easy on the roads.
