Yesterday I viewed the PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS inland from Point sierra Nevada Beach, doing their best mountain plover imitation. I witnessed at least two food captures (worm and worm or snail), so there is food in the wet grass. The beach was sticks and stones with virtually no visible kelp-based wrack. Where has it gone? The beach also had numerous elephant seals with MANY at Arroyo Laguna. What management decisions lie ahead?
I posted plover photos on my Flickr site, and took advantage of the opportunity to add some other lovely birds of January, including Red-necked Grebe, Tropical Kingbird, Vermilion Flycatcher, Canvasback, Ring-necked Duck, Redhead, Common Merganser, Eurasian Wigeon, Yellow-bellied and Red-naped Sapsuckers, and a Ruddy Turnstone, and a few others.
