Here’s a report from my Cape Ann Bird Walk on Jan 26,2019. eBird reports by Robin Cohn.
Three enthusiastic birders met at Halibut Point State Park for an all day birding trip. We drove east around Cape Ann stopping at Andrew’s Point, Cathedral Ledge, Rockport Granite Pier, Bass Rocks (Elks Lodge), Eastern Point Gloucester, Niles Pond/Brace Cove Gloucester. It was a cool, but sunny day without strong winds.
Overall, we saw 22 species. We had closeup looks at Harlequins, Purple Sandpipers and Buffleheads amongst other birds. Highlights were Long-tailed Duck, Harlequin Duck, Gadwall, Purple Sandpiper, Black Guillemot, Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Red-necked Merganser, Black, White-winged and Surf Scoter, Common Loon and Great Cormorant. We were saddened to see a dead Common Murre at Eastern Point.
