Subject: [JERSEYBI] Barrow's Goldeneye: Trenton, Mercer County
While viewing the Delaware River from 4 to 4:45 i was able to study of flock of eighteen Goldeneye that included one female Barrow's. This bird has a distinctly different head shape from the other female birds. The bill which was yellow and black did not slope into the head but rather came in at almost a right angle. The flock cycles the river: diving and floating south to the Calhoun Bridge and then flying upstream to repeat the process. Birds were on both sides of the river. Easiest viewing from Morrisville side just north of Calhoun Street bridge at the boat launch opposite the Morrisville water filtration plant. Probably also viewable from the "island" in West Trenton parallel to Route 29.
