Whitish overall with darker brownish mantle and wings. Sides bright white. White head with dark auricular spot. Bobbing in and out of view out in the surf. "

Sometimes disappeared from view for fairly long periods of time. I also saw it perched on fence quite near to the much larger Say's Phoebe."
